Oh no not another law? What is it and i thought we were under grace? The bible doesn’t specifically spell out what the Law of Christ is in terms of do this or do that as the law does but in essence it means to walk in love. love for God and Love for your fellow man. Now it is mentioned in the bible that we should love God with all our heart mind soul and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves and that the whole commandments of the Law hang on this two things. But it’s pretty vague. In fact one of the scribes who apparently was looking to justify himself asked Jesus “and who is my neighbor? which led to Jesus talking about the Samaritan. he wanted an example of something specific so he could see if he was obeying the law once again to kno0w whether he was right with god.
Now many Christians teach that we just need to obey the ambiguity of these two commandments and thus we are obeying the whole Law. But then again you are under a Law, even if it only has two commandments like love God and love your fellow man. But at the heart of it Jesus is basically boiling it all down to one thing. Live in love. 1 john 4: 7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. So the Law of Christ is to live in Love.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.8 Love never fails. So to put it simply it’s all about Love. But Love like this is not something we can achieve on our own. we need help. when we accept Christ we also accept the spirit of God in our lives to give us the power to live in this new kind of way.
John 15:5 I AM the vine, ye are the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.
Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Personal view: many times I’ve tried in my own strength apart from the Lord to love people who hurt me or are just not nice people and i can’t do it. I just don’t have that ability without Gods help to bolster my heart towards love. When Jesus paid the price in dying to demonstrate Gods love for humanity he had a moment in the garden of Gethsemane where we have our moments sometimes where we have to lay down our own feelings, thoughts or will about a person or situation. its where we realize we don’t have what it takes to take us over the wire into the hard things. This is where we need his Spirit to strengthen us and give us the resolve we need to follow through. Its not about feelings so much here it’s about our willingness.
